About Yolande Ardissone:

Yolande Ardissone is a French painter best known for her landscape and marine paintings. Her artworks highlight the daily scenes of the French countryside, specifically the region of Brittany. Though her subject matter focuses mostly on small villages and boating scenes, she also paints other natural landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes.

Her textured paintings are renowned for the way they highlight her unique and vibrant approach. Her technique combines both sporadic and controlled brushwork to capture impressions of a fleeting moment. Ardissone developed her Impressionistic style by looking at the work of French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, French Post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin, and Dutch Post-Impressionist Vincent van Gogh. Historians and critics often considered Ardissone a colorist due to her skillful approach to color and the use of bold and vibrant hues. Furthermore, her tonal choices allude to the bold color palette and spontaneous expression used by Fauvist artists such as French artist Henri Matisse.

Ardissone was born in Normandy in 1927. From a young age, she showed an interest in art and created her first painting at the age of fourteen. She moved to Paris at seventeen and enrolled at the École des Arts Appliqués. However, after two years, she transferred to the École des Beaux-Arts. Additionally, she studied in the Atelier of Unterstellar.

In 1949, Ardissone received an honorary mention in the Salon des artistes français and would go on to be part of various salons throughout France. Such as being inducted to the Salon d’Automne in 1953. By 1957, the art merchant Wally Findlay discovered her work. Ardissone then began exhibiting in New York, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, and other galleries in the United States. From there, she garnered a considerable reputation in the international art market.

Notably, Ardissone was the recipient of the Silver Medal of Paris. Furthermore, in 1967 she was recognized by the city of Fontainebleau. Aside from exhibiting in various salons in her native France, her work has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. Her artwork belongs to the collections of the French government and art institutions such as the Ile-de-France Museum and the Marine Museum. Additionally, various private collectors own her work.
