Romero Britto’s art is some of the most recognizable in the modern art scene. He is one of the most successful pop artists of the twentieth century and his work has garnered widespread critical acclaim and popularity among private art collectors.
Brazilian creator, painter, serigrapher, and sculptor, Romero Britto considers his role of an artist to be an agent of positive change. Combining elements of Cubism, Pop Art, and Graffiti, he creates vibrant pieces which exude warmth, optimism, love, and hope.
Self-taught at an early age, Britto was first introduced to the work of Matisse and Picasso after traveling to Paris in 1983. Taking on these influences, he developed a highly recognizable graphic, pop-cubist style characterized by a vivid color palette, bold lines, imaginative patterns, and fractured perspective. Relatable to all, his style inspired millions.
Guided by the motto that art is too important not to be shared, Britto dedicated a significant amount of his time and talent to international organizations such as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the American Red Cross and Best Buddies International and pressing issues such as the preservation of the Brazilian Rainforest and AIDS research funding, among others.
Britto’s unique style has led to numerous accomplishments, including being commissioned by the NFL to create a moving work of art for the Opening Ceremony of Super Bowl XLI, being named the Ambassador to the Rio 2016 Olympics by the Coca-Cola Brazilian Olympic Committee, creating the 2014 World Cup Official poster for FIFA, and serving as the FIFA Ambassador for the 2014 World Cup Brazil.
Sharing a vision of a better world, the essence of Romero Britto’s art is optimism. As the artist once explained himself, he hopes his work brings a big smile on people’s faces and a huge one in their hearts.
Born in Recife, on the Northeast side of Brazil, in 1963, Britto lived an extremely modest childhood. He has been living in Miami, Florida since 1989 where he maintains his main art gallery on South Beach on Lincoln Road.
