The American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly is best known for using innovative techniques for handblown glass. His glass practice is a departure from traditional symmetry and perfectly formed vessels and instead characterized by asymmetry and irregularity. Inspired by Japanese fishing floats, Speckled Yellow Float alludes to a terrestrial cell, even an embryo, full of potential life. The speckled effect alludes to the surface of molten lava created by cooled lava bubbles.
Chihuly's Speckled Yellow Float is signed and dated by the artist on the underside of the smallest piece and comes with a gallery certificate of authenticity from Modern Artifact.
