Peter Max's acrylic painting Roseville Profile, from the Roseville Series, exemplifies the artist's mature Neo-Expressionist style, merging figurative pop iconography with vibrant, gestural abstraction. Set against a dark, vertically shaded background, the composition features a minimalist profile delineated by swift, calligraphic red line work, crowned with a dense arrangement of heavily textured impasto brushstrokes in vibrant shades of primary blue, yellow, magenta, and green.

Max employs dynamic, sculptural paint application that emphasizes the physical, tactile quality of the medium, creating a rhythmic visual dialogue between the stark background and the expressive floral form. The motif reflects Max's enduring artistic inquiry into floral profiles and classic decorative forms, executed with the spontaneous energy that defines his late-career output.

Created circa 1998–2008, this original acrylic on canvas work measures 30 by 15 inches and is presented in a gilded frame measuring 43 by 28 inches. The painting is hand-signed "Max" in pigment at the upper right corner and features the artist's studio stamp, registration number 263133, and inventory code 226179.0000 on the verso. The piece originates from a private collection in San Antonio, Texas, and includes a formal Gallery Certificate of Authenticity confirming its provenance.

About Peter Max

Peter Max, born Peter Max Finkelstein in Berlin in 1937, is an iconic German-American artist whose career redefined twentieth-century Pop art through vibrant color palettes, cosmic imagery, and commercial accessibility. Fleeing Nazi Germany in 1938, Max spent his formative childhood years in Shanghai, China, followed by periods in Israel and Paris, before his family settled in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953. Max pursued formal artistic training at the Art Students League of New York, where he mastered classical realism before transitioning into psychedelic visual design during the counterculture movement of the 1960s.

During the late 1960s and 1970s, Max achieved global prominence through his signature "Cosmic Art" style. Characterized by bold outlines, celestial motifs, and saturated primary colors, his visual language captured the zeitgeist of the era across poster art, product design, and mass media. Over the subsequent decades, Max transitioned into Neo-Expressionism, producing monumental portrait series of American presidents, world leaders, and pop culture icons, while serving as the official artist for major international events, including the Super Bowl, the World Cup, and the Grammy Awards.

Max's work is represented in major museum collections globally, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. His prolific career spans painting, drawing, sculpture, and large-scale public installations, cementing his status as a key figure in American commercial art and Pop art history.
