Dale Chihuly's Yellow Orange Baskets painting is a monumental work of art that captures the viewer's attention with its enormous size and radiant warmth. Measuring an impressive 60" x 40", this original acrylic painting on paper is not just a piece of art but a commanding presence, filling any space with its glowing, sunrise-inspired hues.

The composition features four baskets, rendered in shades of orange and yellow, their forms soft and fluid, evoking the organic, free-flowing shapes that Chihuly is renowned for in his glasswork. These baskets seem to float effortlessly against a background of pink and red, colors that blend and merge, creating a sense of warmth and light that envelops the entire piece. The vibrant palette is reminiscent of the first light of dawn, with the baskets glowing like embers in the soft, early morning light.

The sheer scale of "Yellow Orange Baskets" allows the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the painting's warm, inviting atmosphere. The large format emphasizes the expansive quality of the composition, with the baskets appearing almost life-sized, their gentle curves and rich colors drawing the eye across the canvas. This grandeur not only highlights Chihuly's mastery of color and form but also his ability to convey a sense of depth and movement within a two-dimensional medium.

Created in 1999, "Yellow Orange Baskets" is a vibrant and dynamic work that showcases Chihuly's ability to translate the fluidity of his glass creations into the medium of painting. The piece radiates warmth and energy, much like a sunrise, making it a powerful and captivating addition to any collection.

Chihuly's signature, prominently displayed on the bottom right of the painting, authenticates the piece, which is further supported by the Chihuly Studios registration number, an unbroken record of provenance, and a gallery certificate of authenticity from Modern Artifact.

About Dale Chihuly

Dale Chihuly stands among the most celebrated contemporary glass artists, renowned for his awe-inspiring sculptures and installations. He is the creative force behind the magnificent ceiling at the Bellagio's flower garden in Las Vegas and the Rotunda Chandelier at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Chihuly's glass works are among the most sought-after collectibles in the world of decorative arts.

Despite an initial disinterest in formal education, Chihuly pursued extensive academic training, earning both scientific and artistic degrees in sculpture from prestigious graduate schools. He exhibited a keen interest in interior design and craftsmanship from an early age, but his true passion was in glass. As a Fulbright Fellow in the late 1960s, he apprenticed at the Venini Glass Factory in Venice, mastering the art of Murano glass. His innovative approach to glassblowing played a pivotal role in revitalizing this ancient craft on an international level.

Chihuly's creations are featured in over 200 of the world's most esteemed decorative art collections, and he holds twelve honorary doctorates. His most iconic series include the Cylinders and Baskets of the 1970s, Macchia, Venetians, and Persians from the 1980s, Niijima Floats and Chandeliers of the 1990s, and Fiori from the 2000s.

For over 30 years, Chihuly has served as the artistic director of his team, following two accidents that left him blind in one eye and unable to hold the glassblowing tube. These challenges allowed him to broaden his artistic scope, exploring new possibilities in glass art while maintaining his signature style.
