The American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly is best known for using innovative techniques for handblown glass. His glass practice is a departure from traditional symmetry and perfectly formed vessels and instead characterized by asymmetry and irregularity. Inspired by Italian Art Deco glass, Chihuly’s Venetian series marks the artist’s symbolic return to Venice through a collaboration with Italian maestro glassblower Lino Tagliapietra. For this series, Chihuly drew the initial design sketches of classical forms with flamboyant attachments while Tagliapietra interpreted and brought the design to life. Cobalt Blue Venetian Vase with Yellow Lip is an organic and chromatic conception of glass.
